POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Design Specialist is primarily responsible for implementing user experience (UX) and design updates to the ASH website according to industry best practices. This position works closely with the Digital Content Specialist to create new web pages and to redesign existing website content within the organization’s content management system (CMS). The Web Design Specialist is also responsible for the creation or curation of digital media assets including photos, videos, and graphics for the web, ensuring that assets adhere to the Society’s branding and style guide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the Digital Content Specialist to update or create pages on the ASH website by implementing best practice design and layout changes in the content management system (CMS).
  • Creates and optimizes digital media assets including photos, video, and graphics for use on the ASH website, emails, and social media.
  • Works closely with the Manager, Marketing Analytics and the IT department to identify and implement value-adding integrations to improve user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) on the Society’s website .
  • Enhances the website with photos, graphics, and videos that support overall branding and align with targeted campaign messaging and business goals.
  • Builds and maintains a consistent visual identity and strategy across ASH’s digital properties in line with the Society’s branding and style guide.
  • Consults and provides recommendations for UI/UX across the Society’s website presence including ASH Research Collaborative, ASH Publications, and others as needed.
  • Ensures the Society’s website presence (across all domains) meets accessibility and usability best practices.
  • Works with the Society’s consultants to test, implement, and review changes to the Society's website and CMS.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in digital design, graphic design, digital marketing, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of proven experience in web and digital content design required; experience with a professional medical society or nonprofit organization strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in web content development, web content management systems, content marketing, and user experience/user design principles required. Experience with Sitecore, WordPress, and HTML is strongly preferred.
  • Must have proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and/or other graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX best practices, accessibility standards, design principles, and layout composition required.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment, collaborate across multiple departments, and successfully work with internal stakeholders, vendors, and agencies.
  • Strong organizational and project management experience that demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience with project management tools (especially Wrike) is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.

Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment.

Requires periodic out-of-town travel.

ASH has a hybrid work environment, with core in-office days for all ASH staff on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and telework on Mondays and Fridays for eligible positions. The Society’s headquarters is in Washington, DC, and is within walking distance of several Metro stations on the Blue/Orange/Silver and Red lines.
